Marluxia & Larxene

MARLUXIA was the mastermind behind the plans to overtake Organization XIII in Chain of Memories. Therefore, Axel hates him because he views him as a traitor. Axel does not take punishment for traitors lightly, and begins to work his own plan of destroying Marluxia and undoing the plan to take over Organization XIII. After gaining Marluxia’s trust by killing Vexen, Axel frees Naminé in order to save Sora from becoming Marluxia’s puppet. Marluxia then realizes Axel had been fooling him and Larxene the whole time, and really had no intention of helping them with their takeover. He accuses Axel of being the traitor, which simply amuses him because Marluxia is the true traitor in his eyes. Axel is willing to do whatever it takes to destroy Marluxia, and is even willing to go through Naminé to do so. Not that Axel really cared about Naminé to begin with, but he will not rest until the traitor has been disposed of. Axel is even willing to take on Sora, despite knowing Sora was very strong, and is defeated before he is able to take on Marluxia himself. Axel does not seem to care too much, knowing that Sora would carry out punishment on Marluxia for his own reasons. Even before Marluxia realizes Axel is betraying him, it would seem the two did not get along very well to begin with. Their personalities heavily clash, as Marluxia is ruthless and serious, while Axel is cunning and enjoying himself. Marluxia probably found Axel annoying and did not care for him much in the first place.

Axel had more interaction with LARXENE than Marluxia, and worked his way into their trust through her. She was Marluxia’s right hand woman, and therefore Axel also believed she had to be punished for being a traitor alongside him. Larxene gives Axel her trust pretty quickly and without much effort from Axel’s part, which leads me to believe she probably liked him. I do not necessarily mean in a relationship sort of way, and I definitely believe she prized Marluxia over Axel, but she must have had some sort of attachment to member eight to trust him so easily. She also appears to like to touch him a lot, as she seems to have her hands on him in quite a few scenes in RE: Chain of Memories. However, she may just respect Marluxia too much to try and touch him like she does with Axel. Axel uses her misplaced trust to his advantage, and finds out Marluxia’s plans through her. Larxene does put Axel to a test, and tells him to destroy Vexen to prove his loyalty to her and Marluxia. Axel turns her test of loyalty into an opportunity to fake his intentions even further, and kills Vexen with ease. Larxene, much like Marluxia, is in an extremely foul mood when she finds out Axel betrayed them, and ends up rushing to her death in a battle with Sora, much to Axel’s pleasure.
